A clean car is a happy car!
The NKYA Conner Cougars 7th Grade Football team secured their second consecutive Kentucky Middle School Football Association (KMSFA) Region Championship with a thrilling 28-20 win over the Rockcastle County Rockets. This victory advances them to the Kentucky state final four, where they will face Bullitt East. The team, part of the Conner High School class of 2031, stands out as the only group of Conner feeder middle schoolers to have made the state semifinals twice.
The Cougars delivered an impressive performance to clinch the regional title, demonstrating resilience and teamwork on both sides of the ball. After a defensive battle in the first half, which saw the Cougars lead by a score of 7-0, the teams exploded for 41 combined points in the second half. The Rockets kept the game in doubt on big special teams plays until the Cougars were able to secure key first downs in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Their back-to-back regional championships highlight the talent and determination of this group, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in Kentucky middle school football.
Head Coach Adam Clifton praised the team, saying, "Rockcastle is a physical, well-coached team. This group has showed grit and heart all season. I’m proud of their commitment to each other and the way they handled every challenge placed in front of them."
Director of Football Cory Franklin added, "These kids are setting a new standard for Cougars football. Their work ethic and focus have put our program on the map statewide, and we’re excited to see what they accomplish next."
Northern Kentucky Youth Athletics (NKYA) President Travis Nipper expressed his pride as well: "The Cougars embody what youth sports are about—dedication, sportsmanship, and community pride. Congratulations to the boys and their families - and our coaches - on making the Francisville metroplex proud."
The Cougars’ journey continues as the only local 7th grade group to reach the KMSFA state final four this season, preparing to take on Bullitt East for a ticket to the state championship. The excitement and community support around this historic run have never been higher, and all eyes are on the NKYA Conner Cougars as they continue their quest for state glory.
